
Reclaiming Our Earth
Physicist and environmental activist Vandana Shiva PhD, is author of many books, including “Earth Democracy” published in 2006, in which she updates her extensive campaigning to uphold biodiversity and fight against genetic food engineering and the privatisation of natural resources. From the struggles on the streets of Seattle and Cancun to the farms of her native India, Shiva urgently calls for a just and sustainable future. Interviewed here, she speaks of her work to bring about the free sharing of the earth’s resources and towards the reclaiming of commons - ideals that she calls Earth Democracy.
Described by Utne Reader as “someone who has eloquently blended her views on the environment, agriculture, spirituality, and women’s rights into a powerful philosophy”, Vandana Shiva won the Right Livelihood Award in 1993 (the Alternative Nobel Peace Prize).
