Poetic Songs Reflecting Humanity
Scottish singer-songwriter Karine Polwart has a talent for crafting unique and enduring melodies. Her songs deal with humanity in all its many guises, and she has a gift for saying just enough without overstating her case. Karine believes that music is for celebrating, grieving, sharing and wondering. “Nothing inspires me more,” she says, “than the realisation that any one of my songs means something to someone else.”
Karine’s debut album “Faultlines” won three awards at the 2005 BBC Radio Folk Awards, including Best Album. And her song “Daisy” on the follow up CD “Scribbled in Chalk” won another BBC Folk Award for Best Original Song in 2007. In this feature you’ll hear that song, along with other tracks from the album, and some of the songs from Karine’s outstanding 2012 studio album “Traces,” woven with conversation from Karine herself.
