Journey With a Remarkable Tree
In 2004, Ken Finn’s journey took him to the forests of northern Cambodia in search of the fabled spirit trees, some hundreds of years old. What he discovered were ancient forests devastated by illegal logging, impacting on local people who’d sustained themselves for centuries using tree resin. Ken followed the logged trees’ path over the boarder into Vietnam, and through the lumber mills that turned them into garden furniture for European and US consumption. Here, Ken talks about his experiences first hand, that led him to write the book “My journey With a Remarkable Tree.”
Global Witness has been one the independent monitors of Cambodia’s forests for several years, and strives to combat illegal logging and prevent unsustainable forest practices. Mike Davis of Global Witness talks here about the challenges and successes of his organisation’s work in Cambodia.
