Projects for Peace

Scilla Elworthy is a notable international campaigner for peace. In 1982 she founded the Oxford Research Group which developed an independent team of researchers looking at nuclear weapons, the arms trade and dialoguing with the people who took decisions in those areas. Scilla has been a consultant to UNESCO, has managed a self help organisation in Africa and has been a research director for a minority rights group in France, in addition to being author of several books.

Scilla went on to found Peace Direct, an organisation that aims to work towards conflict resolution and prevention of war. Three times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, she was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize in 2003. Here Scilla talks about her passion for peace and how she came to dedicate her life to what she believes is so important. 28 mins.
